I love culture. I love traveling. I love connecting with the school children in Vanuatu and seeing the locals in Panama. The markets of Thailand and the villages of Fiji changed my life. Traveling and experiencing the cuisine of Paris and the culture of Thailand grew me. My most cherished moments and memories are deeply connected to the places I’ve been, the foods I’ve enjoyed, and the lessons I’ve learned. We don’t learn how to truly live until we truly learn how to embrace others.
I know traveling is a trend. I know others talk about passport stamps and lazy days on the beaches of blue-watered islands. I know Instagram is known for pretty pictures of ancient ruins and memorable quotes about living life to the fullest, but traveling has become so much more than pretty pictures and memorable quotes for me. It’s become a place where I learn more about myself, I learn more about the world, and I learn more about my friends I share these experiences with each time.
When I gather around the table, I know a lesson is about to be learned. When I gather around the table, I know I’m going to make a new comrade. When I gather around the table, I know I’m going to walk away changed for the better.
I desire to share my love of travel and food with the world. Gathering as many people as I can around the table is my mission for Planes and Palates. As I sit at my desk, hop on the next flight, or sit under the cabana, I dream of providing access to the places and flavors that make my heart happy. I dream to share experiences and lessons that my law degree never could teach me. I dream of building relationships and friendships through exquisite foodie excursions. So, I curated Planes and Palates.
From adventures in the 50 states to stays across the seas, Planes and Palates is the upscale, curated culinary experience I want everyone to be able to enjoy. In my dreams, you don’t have to be a millionaire to see the world; you don’t have to be a celebrity to experience unique cultures; and, you don’t have to wait to make the most of your life. You can do it today. You can start now. You can say I’ve Been There and Seen That and truly mean it.
To you reading this: life is short, waiting takes too long, and good food is always a good idea. Remember all three, and you’ll truly learn to live, love, and eat more.
Hello. I’m Tyra Hughley Smith, I’m a traveling foodie, and welcome to Been There Seen That.
Cheers to Traveling Taste Buds, Tyra
